INOVACRIL CONCEPT, launched a challenge at the end of 2019 to Furniture Design students at LSD – Lisbon School of Design to create or reinterpret the use of acrylic. Far from imagining the times ahead, the “Acrylic is Back II” Ideas Competition took place in the middle of the pandemic, yet with 2019/2020 Furniture Design students participating with creative proposals, developing the potential of acrylic as base material.
“Innovative and differentiating solutions, which enable the implementation of ideas, even those that at first glance seem impossible, are part of our DNA” This was the challenge that Eng. Carlos Barreiros, General Manager of Inovacril, proposed, thus giving freedom for unlimited creation.
Concept, Originality and Innovation were the criteria that the jury took into account when choosing the winners, and whose awards were recently awarded in May 2022, for reasons related to the constraints caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

upon receiving the news of the 1st Prize in the “Acrylic Is Back II” Ideas Competition with the Riad stool.
Susana Rodrigues received a check worth 500 euros, and also saw her piece being produced at full scale and a prototype of her stool being delivered to a 1:5 scale.
Taking the floor at the time of awarding awards, Eng. Carlos Barreiros renewed the partnership with LSD for a third edition of this Ideas Competition, and thanked everyone present at the event, students, teachers and team who made it possible moment of celebration and conviviality in the name of Portuguese design, production and talent.
